growth of body and reproduction

>> Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Some of the unicellular organisms reproduce by asexual method like binary fission, budding, etc., where there is no necessity for the union between the male and the female, since such animals do not posses a sex. In binary fission, the organisms simply divide into two halves, each growing into separate one. The nucleus initiates the division and with it the protoplasm also divides. The two halves then separate. An amoeba, bacterium, etc., are typical examples of this method of reproduction. On the other hand some animals possess both the male and female sexual organs in one and the same body. Such animals are called hermaphrodites. they may reproduce themselves with the help of their male and female sexual organs or the may need a mate to exchange the male germ cells of one with the female germ cell of the other and vice versa
