Diet in Short Fevers like Flu

>> Sunday, October 18, 2009

Bodily requirement of water, proteins and total calories, minerals, vitamins and of the roughage value is increased in most fevers. Along with bed rest, patients should be encouraged to drink water in the form of fluids, like tea, coffee, barley water, plain water, citrus fruit juices, etc. A small quantity of food at a time taken every 3 hours will ensure proper digestion. It is important to remember that the total calorie requirement is higher in fevers than normally: hence patients should take more of sugars like glucose, ordinary sugar, maltose, etc. “Feed the fevers.” Dhal (pulses), rice, chapatti, boiled vegetables, and bread could all be taken by a case of mild fever.
