Tuberculosis is one of the commonest diseases in our country and the patient requires a long term treatment with drugs and rest. Patient must be given high caloric, high protein and vitamin rich caloric, high protein and vitamin rich diet. One should take milk products like cheese, curds, whey, pulses, soyabeans, etc. Those who eat non vegetarian food should take lean meat, fish, chicken and eggs regularly. One or two fresh fruits or fruit juice also may be regularly consumed. Overweight is bad for pulmonary tuberculosis as much as is undernourishment. Due care should be taken to ensure that the patient dose not put on too much of weight. Regular check on weight using the same weighing machine at a fixed time of day is desirable. Fluctuations in weight are to be avoided.
