Disease- Its Nature and Causation

To maintain our health it is necessary to know about Disease. The word disease literally means lack of ease or comfort, thus underlining the fact that health is characterized by a sense of well being or a feeling of complete harmony with the environment. Diseases are classified according to disruptive influence as follows

1. Infective disorder: eg. Typhoid, smallpox and influenza.
2. Diseases due to physical and chemical agents such as burns and poisons.
3. Diseases due to injuries.
4. Diseases due to nutritional deficiencies such as rickets.
5. Diseases of degenerative origin such as thickening of arteries and liver cirrhosis.
6. Diseases due to new growths such as cancer.
7. Miscellaneous Diseases: e.g., diseases of allergic origin.
8. Heredo-familial due to unknown causes.
