The state of health is not absolute. One can be always healthier than one is, at a particular time. This is the concept of positive health. One can be considered in the state of positive health when all the organs in the body are functioning at the best physiological level and the body as a whole has attained the full biological potential and balance in the total environment. Whenever health is promoted to a positive level, a little disregard regarding usual rules of health may at times not affect adversely the very stable balance established. This is because of the development of strong non-specific immunity or protection against the ordinarily harmful agents.
Health cannot be achieved merely by taking a pill every day, or by observing a few restrictions. One can promote health only by understanding what it is, on what it is dependent, and then applying this knowledge meticulously in everyday life. The care of the body regarding food, cleanliness, exercise, rest, measures for protection against disease, etc., which is necessary for the preservation of sound health has been described in the following chapters of this blog.
